Skincare While You Travel – NikoKnight’s Way

Many of our friends ask me and #ContendedWriter, how do we take care of our skin during travelling. It is till date the most asked question for all travel bloggers and honestly, before we started, even we didn’t know how it’s done right. We were so naive; we thought sunscreen is enough for all the skin related issues. But let me tell you, it’s not! You must have known after seeing our black as midnight Andaman pictures or sunburns in Goa.

Trips were fun but the toll they took on our skin and hair was massive. Being a photographer is no fun when you get back home with a tan and dirt on your face. So, last year I started the Korean skin regime and the results are unreal.

I started watching these videos on YouTube where YouTubers were trying the Korean beauty regime, and I suddenly I felt the need to try it. For those of you who know me, I have this urge to try out everything. Even if I don’t try them, I’ll definitely buy them.

TBH, I never had much expectation from it, but still, I went on and opened the Nykaa app on my phone and started adding the products in my cart. But there was another problem, it was end of the month and believe you me – Korean brands aren’t reasonably priced. So, I bought Indian brands instead of the expensive Korean ones.

For those of you do not know, Korean beauty regime is extensive, and you will need to take out time from your busy schedule if you love your skin. The Koreans emphasise more on skincare rather than makeup. That’s why they have so many skincare brands.

Following are the steps and methods, I use in my daily skin regime. Also, I sometimes like to omit some steps such as exfoliating and face pack and my reasons to do so.
Also, the products I use depend on the season and time of the day. So stay tuned, it’s gonna be fun!

1. Oil Cleansing

I personally use organic coconut oil, but you can use any oil suiting your skin type. You can use oils such as jojoba, grapeseed, neem, olive or castor oil. You can also use a cream based cleanser.

Also, oil cleansing is something I like to avoid regularly during summers but follow it religiously during the winters.

2. Water-based cleanse

A water-based cleanser is what we use regularly; face wash which creates lather such as Clean n Clear, Nivea, Himalaya, etc.
Try to avoid cleansers with more chemical. I use the Himalaya Neem Facewash and Nivea Refreshing Face Wash in summers, especially after an oil cleanse.

I have also used Cetaphil for the longest time and tend to use it when I feel too lazy to follow the regime.

3. Exfoliate

So, exfoliation is something I avoid doing regularly. You shouldn’t exfoliate your skin so much that it strips the skin of its natural oils, which can cause breakouts.
I generally exfoliate twice a week or sometimes once a week, using Gravitale Revitalizing Skin Gel and sometimes ‘Rice Flour’ (I love DIYs).

4. Toning

Toning is an important part of skin care; it hydrates, soothes and restores the PH balance of your skin. I use Kaya Daily Pore Minimising Toner which is alcohol-free and contains witch hazel.

5. Essence

I personally don’t use an essence, mainly because I am not able to find an affordable one yet. But you can easily replace it with an aloe vera gel. I do it and it works wonders.

6. Serum

I use BIOTIQUE Bio Dandelion – Ageless Lightening Serum. I don’t really understand how a serum helps your skin, but since I have started using it, my skin looks more hydrated and young.

7. Face Mask

You must be aware how sheet masks are in trend nowadays. They are the most convenient way of using a face mask without making things messy. I use The Face Shop’s sheet mask, and my favourite nowadays is the blueberry mask. They have a huge variety, and you can choose according to your concern and face type.

Also, I don’t use a sheet mask every day or as a matter of fact, twice a day like the Koreans suggest. But once a week is what I prefer.

8. Eye cream

The eye cream is essential, especially if you are sleeping less and are spending most of your time in front of the screen. I use Kaya Lighten & Smooth Under Eye Cream.
If you ask me, any eye cream will do.

9. Moisturize

The Koreans like to stack up so much moisture on their skin, and that’s what we have been doing since the very start. But it actually helps even if you have an oily skin type. It’s a way of saying to your skin glands, we have enough oil, you do not need to create more sebum. And it does work, no more acne for me.

I only incorporate this step during the night but not in the morning.

10. SPF or Night Cream

You can’t get out of the house without using an SPF, period.

I use Biotique Bio Morning Nectar Lightening & Nourishing Lotion SPF 30 during winters and Abbott Face Guard Silicone Sunscreen Gel – SPF 30 PA+++ during summers. I also use Biotique Wheat Germ Youthful Nourshing Night Cream for the night.
Faceguard was recommended by my dermatologist two years back, and I have never stopped using it since then.

For Hair Care

In my experience, during travelling, it’s your hair that gets damaged more than your skin. So, it is important to oil at least before the trip and after the trip. I use different hair oils according to my moods such as Biotique Bringraj Oil, Parachute Hot Oil, Dove Elixir Nourished Shine Hibiscus and Argan Oil and Indulekha.

But recently, I have discovered this miracle hair serum, and I have been literally forcing people to try it. Its Biotique Mountain Ebony Vitalizing Serum and I urge you guys also to try it.

Also, when I don’t feel like following the whole regime at night after the cleanse, I use this one product. I have recently added two new products to my skincare – L’Oreal Paris Hydrafresh Anti Shine Icy Gel and Blossom Kochhar’s Aroma Magic Vitamin C Skin Lightening Gel.

You must have noticed that the most of the products in my skincare regime includes Biotique products. That’s because they are simply amazing.
